Not too long ago, fuel injection systems were found only on expensive, sophisticated automobiles. Now, fuel injection has all but replaced the carburetor as a fuel-delivery device. Not all fuel injection systems are the same, however. Single-point fuel injection involves the delivery of fuel for injection into the throttle body unit that is situated next to the intake manifold. After being mixed with air, it is sent to the intake manifold and on to the cylinders. Multi-port fuel injection typically calls for fuel to be injected at points above each engine-intake valve. When this is timed to deliver fuel with each intake stroke, it is known as sequential-port fuel injection. |
