When it comes to using a hand-held scraper to remove peeling paint from the exterior of a house, a larger-size scraper that can be used with both hands is best. While the older type with the wooden handle has been replaced with plastic handle versions, the blades remain the same. There is the carbon steel insert with four cutting edges that is held to the head of the scraper with a single screw. When all the cutting edges become dull, they can be sharpened with a file. More expensive scrapers with carbide blades are tougher than carbon steel. Although they do last longer, they must be replaced when the reversible blades with two cutting edges become dull. |
