Each cell in the human body is genetically programmed to do a specific job. Under normal conditions, the cells work together in harmony. But people with the inherited neurological condition called Huntington's Disease have faulty programming in their brain cells that causes the cells to degenerate. Huntington's is a serious condition that causes people to lose control of their movements, suffer emotional disturbances, and lose their intellectual faculties. Early symptoms include difficulty remembering or learning new things, making decisions, and mood swings. A complete medical workup, including genetic testing, is needed to diagnose the disease. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to cure or reverse Huntington's, but the gene has been isolated so future research brings hope.
